What dragon boating taught me about resilience and leadership.
In the dragon boat every stroke has to be precise. Every movement synchronized. The boat only moves efficiently when the team is working together, matching their strokes, and distributing effort evenly. But sometimes, a paddler decides to go all in, digging in harder, pulling with more force, trying to single-handedly carry the boat forward.
It never works.
Instead of accelerating, the boat veers off course. The person steering, whose job is to keep the boat moving in the right direction, now has to fight against that imbalance. Instead of focusing on the destination, they waste time making constant course corrections, struggling to counteract one person’s overexertion.
This is exactly what happens in leadership.
